Let’s face it–when most of us think about home improvement, decorating or anything having to do with adding value to our home, closet doors aren’t necessarily at the top of the priority list. Quite honestly, we do ourselves a disservice when we overlook closet doors as an integral aspect of our overall bedroom design. They can add so much to a space, without having to be the “star of the show”, so to speak. Two primary factors that will determine what type of closet doors you’ll need are the amount of space you have in the room, and the location of the closet itself. With those two points in mind, you can then decide what the best styles of closet doors will be for your particular room.

When it comes to closet door styles, bi-fold doors are without a doubt one of the most popular choices on the market. Instead of swinging completely out, bi-fold doors fold accordion-style, giving you more floor space to work with. They not only save space due to their ability to fold over upon themselves, but they give you unhindered access to your entire closet at one time. The only caveat with bi-fold doors is that you will need to make sure that you select a quality brand, along with quality hardware, so that the doors don’t get stuck, jammed, or accidentally pop out of their place.

Pocket doors are another popular style of closet doors due to their space-saving capabilities. When you install pocket doors, you are freeing up the space that would normally be occupied by a hinged swinging door. Pocket doors simply slide into an opening within the wall, making it ultra-convenient to keep them open when you need to. Keep in mind, however, that you won’t be able to nail anything to the wall that the door slides into. Some of the best styles of closet doors are louver doors, because they provide much-needed ventilation to the closet area. This fresh air circulating throughout the closet will prevent your clothes from developing any type of “musty” or unpleasant smell. Whether you choose bi-fold, pocket or louver doors, keep in mind that you will want to choose high-quality door hardware, so that the closet doors will and be built to last, and function properly for years to come.
